Shinjuku at Night

Jet lag made it an early night for J so I set out to do some shinjuku at night street crossingexploring on my own.
One thing I love about Japan is all the people  moving about. I was trying to play off the movement so the people appeared as ghost like images moving through the night.
Shinjuku is a crowded shopping and entertainment area with lots of young people hanging about shopping and socializing. In some bars on the side street people just spill out into the street.

At major crossings hundreds of people queue up until the lights change and move across the intersection.

What I like about this picture is the woman on the left who is focus seems to be looking directly at the ghostly apparition on the left.

Shinjuku station starbucks

We have made is a little ritual every morning to  sit at this Starbucks and look out on Shinjuku. While I was walking around I realized that I had never noticed that window from the outside. It was fun to see the people in the window looking out where we sit. Just for context the actual station is beneath what you are looking at. It is the busiest train in the world. There are department stores and shops above. The whole thing is a mega complex that is very easy to get lost in.
Shinjuku tree at night

Just so you don’t think that this is all a concrete jungle there is life. A couple blocks from the station is Shinjuku Goen – a very large park/botanical garden. Little pocket parks dot the area and trees find themselves in the oddest places. On one shopping alley I found this one framed in the night sky.
I was tired myself so I crashed about 8:00 pm. Of course we both woke up very early.
