Hiroshima for Lunch Friday October 16, 2009

So it has become our tradition to go to Hiroshima for a  meal at a tiny little Okonomiyaki restaurant in Hiroshima. We found it on our second trip to Japan and now have been back three times. The second time J was astonished that I found it and each time it is a joke whether or not we can navigate our way back each time.
Hiroshima is a beautiful city with rivers running through it.

From the station you cross two rivers to get to the restaurant.

Of course like any Japanese city there are strange juxtapositions like this temple near a parking lot.

This time we were careful to take pictures in front so we had the right name and didn't rely on our faulty aging memories ...

The restaurant is tiny with a big grille in the middle making Hiroshima style

It was a great lunch.

On the way back we passed over the river. The tide was low and we saw interesting things in the river.

It was odd – these bikes covered in mud – sort of like seeping back into the river.

On the way back to the station we found the following that puts stuff in context …

And these Japanese school girls are everywhere on the trains …
